Spotlight on June: Why It’s a Great Month for Senior Photos
If you’re looking for a summer evening session and still need to book, most of my remaining open dates are in June (b. Here are my best tips to plan for those dates:
Locations
My personal recommendations are:
Nichols Arboretum peony garden (late May-early June blooms only!)- Big flowers, but tricky with parking and logistics
Detroit downtown or Eastern Market- I only have time for the drive in June and September, so take advantage!
University of Michigan Law Quad- it's truly great year-round, but having no students on campus definitely helps!
Looking for something more laid back? The locations with the easiest drives & parking, that look great in early summer are the Matthaei Botanical Gardens park area (bridges, greenery), downtown Plymouth & Northville, Maybury State Park and Plymouth Township park.
Looking for florals? Early summer can be unpredictable but I'm always on the look for the best spots. Bringing your own bouquet is also a great option!
How to Prepare for an Early Summer Session
Plan Outfits Early
Start shopping in early May so you have time for:
- trying on different looks
- returns or exchanges
- finding the right shoes
- choosing accessories
The earlier you plan, the less stressful everything feels.
Want Graduation Photos Too?
If you’d love a few cap-and-gown images, ask a friend who just graduated if you can borrow theirs.
Pro tip: you can often buy the next year’s tassel online to complete the look.
Thinking Golden Hour? Don’t Wait.
If you’re hoping for that warm sunset glow, summer evenings book first. July and August tend to fill quickly, so June is often the next best chance to grab a golden hour spot.
